Calcium Carbonate (CaCO₃), also known as Whiting, is a white, powdery material used in ceramics as a flux in glazes and as a source of calcium in clay bodies. It helps lower glaze melting points, encourages glossy surfaces, and can influence glaze color and opacity.
While relatively low in toxicity, Calcium Carbonate can be irritating if inhaled as dust. Use a dust mask or respirator when handling, and work in a well-ventilated area to avoid respiratory irritation.
