Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate, Na₂CO₃) is a white, water-soluble powder used in ceramics as a flux in glazes and clay bodies. It lowers melting temperatures, encourages glossy surfaces, and contributes sodium ions that interact with silica and alumina to produce unique surface textures, especially in soda or salt firings.
Soda Ash can be irritating if inhaled or ingested. Always wear gloves, a dust mask or respirator, and work in a well-ventilated area.
