AC302 - Wax Resist
SKU: AC3022 Brand: Mayco
$4.50
Wax Resist is a water-based coating to prevent color from adhering when glaze is applied to bisque or greenware.
Wax Resist acts to repels glaze from the surface to which it is applied. As the kiln is fired the wax dissipates, leaving the surface beneath as it was prior to firing. It can be applied to unglazed greenware or bisque or it can be applied over previously applied, unfired color.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
Do you know at what temp the wax resist vaporizes? I'm in need of removing this resist on my piece to finish prior to bisque during. From other info I've read is somewhere around 1000° F but not sure that's correct for this Mayco brand. Any guidance is much appreciated!
Wax resist vaporizes at around 300 degrees Fahrenheit. It will burn out in the kiln!

Hi there! I'm bringing in some pieces to fire and am new to underglaze. I applied a thin coat of Amaco Velvet Underglaze on the bottom of a piece as a signature and plan to put wax resist on as well to protect the kiln. I wanted to check if this is acceptable, or if a stilt would need to be used. No worries if it's the latter, just want to make sure I come prepared! Thanks.
You can use underglazes on the bottoms of pieces without needing to add a wax resist layer. In fact, if you're having your pieces fired at our location, we ask that you don't applie wax resist to the bottom of the piece.
