Cobalt Oxide

Cobalt Oxide (Co₃O₄) is a powerful colorant widely used in ceramics for producing deep blue hues in glazes and slips. Even in small amounts, it yields intense color, and when combined with other oxides, it can create a broad range of tones from blue-greens to purples and blacks. Because cobalt is a relatively scarce metal with high demand across multiple industries, cobalt-based ceramic materials are expensive compared to most other colorants.

Dust is harmful if inhaled or ingested and may cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Prolonged exposure can have toxic effects. Always wear gloves, a dust mask or respirator, and work in a well-ventilated area. Do not ingest, and wash hands thoroughly after use.
