Burnt Umber (Fe₂O₃ + MnO₂) is an iron and manganese-rich natural earth pigment used in ceramics as a colorant for glazes, slips, and clay bodies. It produces a range of warm brown tones—from reddish-brown to dark chocolate—depending on the firing temperature and atmosphere. In oxidation, it yields earthy browns, while in reduction, it can shift toward deeper, cooler hues.

Dust can irritate the lungs, skin, and eyes. Always wear gloves, a dust mask or respirator, and work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid ingestion and wash hands thoroughly after handling.
