Our best all around multipurpose clay, LF06 White is great earthenware for hand-building and use on the wheel. Works well with bright low-fire glazes and underglazes and especially loves SPS pottery glazes! It's also extremely craze-resistant.

This is our top recommendation for elementary schools and for younger children as it is extremely workable. 

Ideal for throwing, handbuilding, jiggering, pressing, and flowerpots. Also available with added sand and paper.

25 lb. block.

To use: wedge wet clay, work as preferred, and fire to ∆ 04. Use with low-fire glazes.

  • What are the recommended cones for this clay using Mayco Stroke & Coat Wonderglazes? Bisque firing @ 06 or 04? Glaze firing @ ?

    You can bisque fire and glaze fire the LF06 at 06, 05, and 04. We use 05 for both bisque and glaze firings in store.

  • Can this be fired at cone 010?

    This can be fired to cone 010, but it will be underfired. The clay will be fairly weak and very porous. We do not recommend firing this clay to cone 010 as its hottest firing. If you've already done a bisque firing to cone 05, and then want to glaze at cone 010, that would work.

  • What is the absorption percentage of LF06?

    LF06 is a low fire clay, and will always remain porous and absorbent were it is expose/not covered with glaze. You can always run your own absorption tests (googling "ceramic absorption test" will give you a variety of tutorials) to find out what the exact numbers are.

  • Re LF06 is this clay available without sand? thank you

    The LF06 does not have sand in it.

  • Is this oven safe when fired to 06? I am a beginner.

    Welcome! Food safety is obtained with the glaze, typically glossy. Unglazed clay of any kind is not safe for food. Low-fire pieces are not recommended for dishwasher or microwave.
