A midrange modified porcelain, CKK6 rides the line between porcelain and stoneware. It gives you beautiful, bright white finishes with less of the traditional porcelain finnicky-ness.
Super smooth slip makes CKK6 a dream to throw. Great for Potters who want to dip their toes into the world of porcelain. CKK6 can be a touch more reactive on the wheel; however, it maintains good stability for making larger pieces, as you would see in standard stoneware. Trimming is unbelievably satisfying; the smooth clay texture means you can kiss unruly trimming lines goodbye. Any unwanted texture can be softened out easily with a damp sponge.
CKK6 with grog is an excellent choice for handbuilders who want more structure while keeping the delicate look of porcelain. Grog helps create sturdier walls and improves the drying process. As with all porcelains, CKK6 can be more impacted by moisture differences than a typical stoneware. Consider using slow-drying processes; they can be very beneficial for this clay body, especially when handbuilding.
Fires white at cone 5 or 6. Available with added grog.
To use: wedge wet clay, work as preferred, and fire to ∆ 5. Use with mid-range glazes.
*Please be aware that natural impurities may occasionally occur in our clay! Our clays are made with natural minerals, mined from the earth. In some rare cases, natural impurities, or ribbons of other minerals, are mixed in with the raw materials provided by our suppliers. This can lead to clays that don’t perform the way they are supposed to. If you have any questions about a particular clay body, please reach out to info@seattlepotterysupply.com.

Good day. Do you have any info on absorption when this clay is fired to cone 5 vs cone 6? Thank you very much.
No we only have a chart for cone 5 -
Is this clay body okay for slab and hand building Is its fired white color brighter than Seattle Freeze
Generally porcelains arent the best for slab and large handbuilding because the lack of inclusions like grog make it less structurally strong. That said you can use it, it is just a skill that needs to be worked on. Of all the porcelains we make, CKK6 is the best for these techniques as it is porcelaneous, and a nice middle ground between stoneware and porcelain and has some more strength. It is a nice bright white, with more opacity than Seattle Freeze.
