Why start with a consult?

Because guessing is expensive

A live Google Meet diagnosis means the right part ships the first time, you skip an unnecessary truck roll, and you never pay for labor you didn't need. Every great repair starts with an accurate diagnosis — and the fastest way to get one is to show a real tech what's happening, live.

The Kiln Health Check is the only way to start a repair with us — it's how we diagnose accurately, bid honestly, and spec the exact parts you need.

We also service pottery wheels, slab rollers, and pugmills — and we're warranty-licensed for Brent, Shimpo, and Laguna wheels.

The repairs we see most

  • Element replacement
  • Thermocouple replacement
  • Relay replacement
  • Controller upgrades & programming
  • Firebrick & lid repair
  • Ventilation setup

A quick note on elements. Replacing heating elements is one of the most common kiln fixes. We make our own elements and are currently restocking element wire, so some element orders may have a lead time right now. We keep a limited stock on hand and can often source other brands — but during the restock we can't promise immediate availability. We'll diagnose your kiln, give you an honest timeline, and get your order in line. We expect supply to ease up by late summer.

Questions

Good to know

Do I really have to do a video consult first?

Yes — a Kiln Health Check is the only way to start a repair with us. It's a live Google Meet video call where a real technician diagnoses the problem, so we can give you an accurate repair bid or send you the exact parts. The $49 covers the technician's time.

How does the video call work?

It's a live video call over Google Meet. We email you a link when you book — just join from a phone or laptop with a camera at your scheduled time, standing at your kiln.

What if I already know what part I need?

Great — you can shop SPS Kiln Parts directly; ordering parts doesn't require a consult. A Kiln Health Check is for diagnosing a problem and starting a repair.

Is the $49 refundable?

No — the $49 is a non-refundable fee for a technician's diagnostic time. In limited cases we may return it at our discretion: for example, if the call wraps within about five minutes, or if your repair turns out to be covered under a manufacturer's warranty (ours or the equipment maker's).

Do you come to my home or studio?

We serve the whole country by video and ship parts everywhere. Hands-on, on-site service is available by scheduled travel, or through an SPS-Certified Technician in your area — we'll sort that out on your call.

Is it safe for me to repair my own kiln?

Many repairs are very doable with our coaching, and we prioritize safety at every step. Anything involving live voltage or beyond your comfort, we'll either guide carefully or handle for you. We never push an unsafe fix.

Can you replace my kiln's elements right away?

Maybe — element replacement is one of the most common repairs, and right now we're restocking the wire we use to make our own elements. We keep some in stock and can often source other brands, but during the restock we can't promise immediate availability. We'll diagnose your kiln, place your order, and give you an honest lead time (we expect things to ease by late summer).

What brands do you work on?

All major electric ceramic and glass kilns — Skutt, L&L, Olympic, Paragon, Cone Art, Amaco, Cress, Evenheat and more.
