Cryolite (Kryolite)

Cryolite (Na₃AlF₆) is a sodium aluminum fluoride mineral used in ceramics primarily as a flux and complexing agent in glazes. It lowers melting temperatures and helps produce glossy, flowing surfaces at relatively moderate kiln temperatures.

Cryolite can decompose to release fluoride fumes, which are toxic when inhaled and harmful to the eyes and skin. Always wear gloves, a dust mask or respirator, and work in a well-ventilated area. Do not ingest, and wash hands thoroughly after handling.
