Iron Chloride (commonly ferric chloride, FeCl₃) is a chemical compound used in ceramics and glazes to introduce iron oxide for coloring and fluxing effects. In small amounts, it can help deepen earthy tones and contribute to variegated surfaces under certain firing conditions.
Iron Chloride is corrosive and can cause burns or severe irritation if it contacts skin or eyes, and its fumes are harmful if inhaled. Always wear gloves, eye protection, and a respirator or dust mask, and work in a well-ventilated area. Do not ingest. Wash hands and any affected skin thoroughly after handling.
