Manganese Dioxide

Manganese Dioxide (MnO₂) is a dark, fine manganese oxide used in ceramics to deepen brown, black, and purple tones in glazes and clay bodies. In reduction firing it can enhance rich, earthy metallic effects and intensify darkness in glaze surfaces.

Fine dust can be harmful if inhaled — it may irritate lungs, eyes, or skin and has neurotoxic potential with prolonged exposure. Always wear gloves, a properly fitted respirator or dust mask, and work in a well-ventilated area. Do not ingest. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
