Zinc Oxide (Calcined) (ZnO) is a refractory oxide used in ceramic glazes as a flux and a matting agent. Because it has been calcined, it is less prone to shrinkage or gassing during firing, giving more predictable glaze results. Zinc oxide encourages development of crystalline surfaces and can produce glossy or matte finishes depending on the glaze recipe. It also influences color response when combined with coloring oxides.
Can irritate the respiratory system if inhaled as dust. Prolonged exposure may cause lung irritation. Always wear a dust mask or respirator, use gloves, and work in a well-ventilated area. Avoid ingestion and wash hands after handling.
