Designed as a replacement for (and evolution of!) our popular Sea Mix 5 clay, Sea Mix 6 is an extremely workable mid-range stoneware that is so easy to use it makes you feel like a pro. An excellent clay body with all of Sea Mix 5’s superpowers, it’s great for throwing and sculpting alike, and fires to a soft off-white. Makes your mid-range glazes pop. Ideal for throwing, hand building, jiggering, pressing, and dinnerware… just for starters.
A quick note on what is new about the (new) Sea Mix 6
We’ve tweaked the Sea Mix 6 formulation because of the G200 Feldspar shortage. For those of you who have already tried—and loved—it, never fear! We’ve found a chemically identical feldspar through another source, and after many rounds of testing, we like the (new) new Sea Mix 6 even more than before!

To use: wedge wet clay, work as preferred, and fire to ∆ 5. Use with mid-range glazes.
*Please be aware that natural impurities may occasionally occur in our clay! Our clays are made with natural minerals, mined from the earth. In some rare cases, natural impurities, or ribbons of other minerals, are mixed in with the raw materials provided by our suppliers. This can lead to clays that don’t perform the way they are supposed to. If you have any questions about a particular clay body, please reach out to info@seattlepotterysupply.com.

How do you feel this clay compares to Laguna's B-Mix 5? Thanks!
Our Sea Mix 6 is a wonderful alternative to B-Mix 5. Sea Mix tends to be less slippy than B-Mix 5 when thrown. B-mix 5 is a slightly creamier fired color than Sea Mix 6. They are both lovely and smooth! Our Sea Mix 6 is available with sand, or grog added in, which both add some great strenght.

The description says to fire to cone 5, but is it fine at cone 6, too? Any major changes to make note of at the higher firing temperature?
Our Sea Mix 6 is stable at Cone 6. You might notice some over-vitrification (bubbling, slumping, etc.) if you do a hold at Cone 6. Holds can push temperatures up towards Cone 7 and cause this clay to over fire. Other than this possible issue it should be okay!
