Kentucky #5 Ball Clay is a high-plasticity clay prized for its strength, workability, and smooth texture. It blends well with other clays to improve green strength, reduce cracking during drying, and enhance the overall plasticity of ceramic bodies. Its light firing color makes it versatile for both stoneware and porcelain blends, providing consistent performance in throwing, casting, and extrusion.
Substitutes for Kentucky #5 include OM-4, which offer similar plasticity and firing characteristics, though slight adjustments may be needed in clay body recipes to match shrinkage and color.
