OM‑4 Ball Clay is a highly plastic, fine-textured clay that enhances both strength and workability in ceramic bodies. Its smooth, consistent particles improve green strength and reduce cracking during drying, making it ideal for stoneware, porcelain, and functional pottery. With moderate natural organics and a light-firing color, OM‑4 blends easily with other clays and fluxes to create durable, high-quality wares. While it can help suspend heavier materials in glazes in small amounts, its primary role is as a performance-enhancing clay in the body.

Kentucky ball clays are some of the most widely used clays in ceramics because of their exceptional plasticity, strength, and fine particle size. They provide green strength in forming, reduce cracking during drying, and improve glaze fit, making them essential in everything from studio pottery to industrial ceramic bodies. Their light firing color also makes them versatile in blending with other clays and fluxes.

*Please be aware that natural impurities may occasionally occur in our clay! Our clays are made with natural minerals, mined from the earth. In some rare cases, natural impurities, or ribbons of other minerals, are mixed in with the raw materials provided by our suppliers. This can lead to clays that don’t perform the way they are supposed to. If you have any questions about a particular clay body, please reach out to info@seattlepotterysupply.com.
