XX Sagger Ball Clay is a fine-grained, low-iron ball clay from Kentucky, noted for its high silica and alumina content. It fires to a light cream color with approximately 13% shrinkage at cone 10. This ball clay is particularly effective in salt and soda firings, where its silica content promotes the "orange peel" effect on the fired surface. Its fine particle size and low flux make it ideal for creating smooth, durable clay bodies.
Due to its low iron content, XX Sagger Ball Clay is also well-suited for flashing in wood firings. It is commonly used in clay body formulations for atmospheric firings and can be incorporated into slips for decorative effects.
